Winning the Battle with Temptation

Immediately after Jesus was baptized, Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness with no food for 40 days to be tempted by satan. (Read that sentence again slowly so you fully understand what happened.) Jesus was led by HOLY SPIRIT into the WILDERNESS with NO FOOD for 40 DAYS to face satan.

Jesus was victorious and remained sinless and did not fall for the traps of temptation because He knew the scriptures and He stayed connected to the Father in prayer. Even at 12 years old Jesus stayed at the temple for days and told His parents that He needed to “be about His Father’s business.” Jesus was filling up with knowledge even as a boy. The Bible says He grew in wisdom and stature.

What about us? How can we stay strong when we face trials and temptations? Well, in the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus told the disciples to pray so they would not fall into temptation. He wanted them to take it seriously BEFOREHAND and connect with God.

Jesus knows we will be tempted by the devil but He told us to pray and connect deeply with God so we won’t FALL into temptation.

We live in a world where the devil is prowling, looking for someone to devour. Much prayer and a filling of Holy Spirit is needed if we want to be victorious over the power of the devil. We can’t just shout him away. We can’t just merely repeat a Bible verse. We have to be connected to God and allow the power of God to flow through us as we speak the word with His power.

It’s so easy to sleep in late and not get up early to pray. It’s very easy to take a drive on a Sunday morning instead of go into the house of God to learn the scriptures. It’s easy to watch a movie on the things of the world rather than turn on a sermon or listen to a Bible based podcast. But when the day comes that WE will have to wrestle with the devil face to face, who’s going to win the fight?

The devil don’t play. He WANTS us at our weakest. He WANTS us full of the nonsense of the world rather than the scriptures and power of God. It’s a set up.

If we want to be victorious when the day of evil comes, we must be prepared ahead of time. We gotta know what the word says so we can submit to GOD and the truth in His word. That is what strengthens us enough to resist the lies and nonsense of devil and that is what makes him flee. (Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee.) Otherwise, the devil will chew us up and spit us out and we are left running or crawling away to lick our wounds.

May God help us and draw us closer and closer to Himself so we truly are equipped to stand in the victory of the Lord.
